Pearls, 2025

This body of work reflects on our worship nowadays. What are we worshiping? Are we following pretty and bright colors? What are we obsessing with? What do we want to achieve and be like? Inspired by the reliquaries we can see in churches, the pink pearl represents the thing we all want to achieve or to be like. Attracted by pretty things and colors, we obsess with our two goals: being pretty at all costs and being happy all the time, enjoying life constantly. These are the commands we receive the whole day everywhere. The use of pearls acts for me as a symbol. I use them as a representation of humanity, masses of people. The formation of pearls is very parallel to the formation of our bones, teeth through biomineralization, but also as it’s traditional symbol as a suggestion of tears, hysteria and fainting. Also going further on the idea that the cost of a pearl’s austere perfection is death. Pearls respond constantly to its ever shifting environment, as humans do to the trends of the moment.
